Be Careful When Purchasing e-Books

We all receive email -almost on a daily basis- from fellow marketers wishing to sell their e-books.

Now, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that, aside from the fact that the information in these e-books might be outdated. Software and hardware technologies change at such a high speed it's incredible. You read something now and in 3 hours something new comes up.
If you don't believe me go over to SlashDot or PCMagazine or Extremetech or TechCrunch or TheRegister and click on the refresh button of your browser every 3 hours and you'll see exactly what I mean.

Anyway back to the subject of buying e-books with outdated information.

A few days ago I received an email from a well known and much respected Internet affiliate program marketer, who was recommending an e-book from a fellow Internet marketing author. I immediately hurried over to the link from the email, paid $147 USD and bought the book.

Well, all of the information was old; with screen captures from known search engines dating back 1 or 2 years ago, and techniques which no longer work because things have really changed during the last few months.

So to all of our fellow e-book authors out there selling information for a living:
1- Make sure all your e-books mention the exact date that the book was written.
2- If you DO make changes, make sure you assign a version number to your book.
3- Try to offer free updates to your existing customers by giving them access to a protected download area of your web site.

It is hard enough as it is, let’s not make it any harder.

Buying ebooks without much upfront information

Hey there netpanorama,

You have a valid point.
Next time I order another ebook I'll make sure to ask for this simple information that you have stated in your blog.
I guess it's real easy to send an email to the guy and find out when the book was written.

Keep these ideas coming. We newbies really need this information.
